Bradshaw Smith dies at 57
Bradshaw Smith, a cabaret performer who went on to produce the cable television shows "Cabaret Beat" and "Broadway Beat," which chronicled the happenings of the NY theater world, died Jan. 16 after a sudden stroke. He was 57.Smith began as a cabaret artist. His shows included the long-running "Cole Porter Revue" at Don't Tell Mama, and he won both a 1987 MAC (Manhattan Assn. of Clubs and Cabarets) Award for male vocalist and a Backstage Bistro nod in 1985. He soon stepped offstage, however, for work as a videographer and producer documenting the events of Gotham's legit biz: openings, concerts, benefits. He received the MAC Board of Directors Award for his new cable television show "Cabaret Beat" in 1990.Smith and Richard Ridge went on to create the half-hour program "Broadway Beat," through which they documented NY theater professionals in performance and rehearsal for productions from Broadway to Off Off Broadway, at Gotham cabarets and at awards shows, among other events, over a period of more than two decades. I absolutely knew I wanted to be an actor because I wanted to be somebody, an emotional Davis said accepting her award. I wanted to dream big and make a mark somehow. Thats something absolutely that Aibileen was not afforded. I considered it my honor to pay homage to these women at this time period who were not allowed to dream and not allowed to find their purpose. Others who accepted trophies at the lavish Hollywood Palladium ceremony included George Clooney as best actor for The Descendants, Christopher Plummer as best supporting actor for Beginners and Thomas Horn as best young actor for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Frankly, I didnt even imagine I would get this, but I have, beamed a surprised Horn. Funnymen Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel hosted the ceremony, which was broadcast live on VH1. Other winners included Bridesmaids as best comedy movie, Drive as best action movie, Rango as best animated feature, Midnight in Paris as best original screenplay, Moneyball as best adapted screenplay, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for best editing and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 for best makeup and best sound. So, gals read on to be inspired to turn yourself into an object of mens fantasy in 2012! Why not, you deserve it! Act like youre confident and youll get there, advises Marisa, who describes herself in Womens Health as very shy and doesnt like to be the center of attention. Yet, as a top lingerie and swimsuit model, Marisa knows she needs to work hard to look this hot. Eighty percent of the things I do are not natural for my personality. I believe you have to fake it till you make it. Marisas body is a sensation from head-to-toe, but shes known for her fantastic abs. The supermodel shares her favorite flat-belly moves in Womens Health. 1. Alternating Crunch: Working your obliques pulls everything together and gives you a slim waist, reveals Marisa. Her top move is alternating crunches, which are done by lying on your back with your hands behind your head, elbows out. Then, lift your legs to tabletop position, raise your shoulders off the ground, as you bring your left elbow to right knee. Repeat on other side. 2. Plank: Hold the upper position of a push-up. Then, keeping your arms straight, back flat, and neck long, hold for up to 60 seconds. Its an excellent ab toner. 3. Leg Raises: Lie on your back, arms at your side and then lift your legs until theyre perpendicular to the floor. Keep legs as straight as possible and slowly lift your tailbone an inch off the floor.
