How to fix vocal breaks in voice range?

Hello all,
I used to be in my high schools choir but I stopped singing due to
illness. Between my younger days and teenage years my voice split
While I used to hit a high b flat above middle c suddenly my voice
dropped out during a concert and my teacher noted I had been singing
in mid tenor range within a S/A piece so it was very obvious on the
microphone... No one ever had me sing low before but my Dad is a
Baritone with a heavy mid voice and my mother is a Soprano without
much whistle range. If that even matters.
It got worse from there I was moved from first soprano down to second
alto. Eventually I was instructed to just overlay as I wished with the
tenor's part. This was after the teacher did a full range check for
the choir and to his horror I hit a B2 along with the bass sitting
behind me.

Anyway I wanted to start singing again but I don't understand my range
at ALLL now!!!
I have a strong C3 to G3 but my voice tone completely changes at A3
where there is a audible break. I can still hit my B5 but I have
trouble singing in the higher octaves because I always seem to
transpose it down by ear and match the note a octave lower. What the
heck am I in voice type?? I am very loud and full when I sing. I sing
Amy Whinehouse good and "Momma, look sharp" from the musical 1776. I
can almost do 'Molasses to Rum' perfect too.
But I'm a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this makes no sense....arg
