what is this song that I only remember part of?

pretty hazy on the lyrics so all i know is that it is rock, sounds
semi-rolling stones-ish (almost sure it's not them), and has a pattern
of going "and if the ___________, and if the _________, and if the
_________, then ___________" and so on and so on. I realize this is
really hard to figure out, but hopefully somebody knows what I'm
talking about?

For what it's worth, the "and if the ________" parts sound really
random; something like and if the fire stays lit, and if the fire
stays lit and if the fire stays lit, then...............
